Purpose of the project:
- to become familiar with macroeconomic data
- to apply the concepts and models learned in class to analyze data
- to practice writing an report associated with Economics
Theme: pick one of the following topics and analyze using the material you learned from the class:
- Real exchange rate
- Economic Growth
- Price level (inflation) fluctuation
Requirements:
- it should be at least 5 pages long, including graphs, tables and references
- you need to choose a country other than U.S.
- before the submission, you can go to TA’s office hour to get feedback as much as you need
- if you are working in group, indicate which part was written by whom
- the paper should consist of data section and analysis section
- For data part, you need to use Microsoft Excel (or other spreadsheet software) to prepare descriptive statistics and table / graph
- When citing the source of data, make sure you also indicate the URL of the web site

- The analysis section should use the theories you learned in class to analyze the data. If you find inconsistency between data and theory, you need to discuss it and think what might cause this
Notes:
- you can form a group with up to three members. I can help you find a partner
- grading is based on the following points
- the extent to which the written analysis displays competence with course material
- the extent to which the written report connects what is happening in the data to models learned in class
- the overall neatness and professionalism of the project
- equal contribution among members, if working in group
- the “effort level” the students give out as a group or individual
- the project will be first graded by TA and then doublechecked by the instructor. It is recommended to go to TA office several times before submission to receive useful feedback
- To assure fairness in grading, only TA will give you feedback during the quarter. Instructor can help you in following cases
- will give general suggestions based on what is taught in the class to all the students
- help you in using spreadsheet software
